Who We Are

Dr George Hibbert

George Hibbert is a doctor and a psychiatrist who trained and worked in Oxford for over 20 years.  During that time, as well as treating the full range of mental disorders, he specialised in assessing and treating drug and alcohol problems, personality disorders and family problems.  He was a senior lecturer at the University of Oxford, training medical students, psychiatrists and doctors from other specialities.  His published research was into the assessment and treatment of anxiety and panic attacks.

While continuing as a senior lecturer at Oxford, George established and, for 10 years, ran a centre for the expert assessment of families where there were concerns about the welfare of the children.

George is no longer registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) after retiring from NHS and parenting assessment responsibilities, but continues to offer his extensive experience and skills to help individuals, couples and families overcome their life difficulties.

George is a hugely experienced and committed practitioner with a great depth of experience in assessing and helping to resolve psychological difficulties affecting families and individuals.

George read psychology and physiology at Worcester College, Oxford and completed his medical qualifications at University College Hospital, London.

Those interested in George’s biography may encounter references to a GMC investigation of a complaint, which attracted media attention and of which he was completely exonerated.  In case media references cause concerns in readers seeking his help, here is a link and brief summary of an independent report published by the British Medical Journal.  If necessary, George can provide the full text with the permission of the publisher:

Clare Dyer

A psychiatrist who was accused in the tabloid press of wrongly diagnosing mental illness in mothers so that social services could take their babies away has been cleared of all charges by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

The tribunal service panel found all the factual allegations unproved

Emma Templeton

Having worked as a solicitor and then having a family, Emma became a probation officer, the core of which was helping people to discover their own motivation to change destructive behavioural patterns. It was often the first time these clients had felt listened to, valued, understood. As part of her own personal development, she also undertook a two year practitioners’ training course with the renowned Andrew Wallas, at The School for Wizards.  Andrew teaches how to induce a radical ‘alchemical shift’ in self perception (turning psychological lead into spiritual gold), recognising the interplay between the emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual.

She has faced, come through, and brings a wealth of life experience to, many of the crises which clients experience: empty nest syndrome, separation and divorce, menopause, bereavement, family conflict, addiction, grief, anxiety, and depression. She has a particular interest in issues of relationships and adult personal growth which would include maturing sexuality, reawakening desire, regaining confidence and deepening connection to self and others. Emma’s practice is person-centred, collaborative, empathic, warm and uses a number of complementary frameworks, such as CBT, motivational interviewing and narrative therapy. She strongly believes that facets of life we often leave to chance or emotion – such as love and desire – can be better understood, negotiated and evolved by deliberately harnessing conscious, rational decision-making, in other words, thinking and talking about them. To that end, George and Emma have developed a number of tools and strategies to promote and revive intimate relationships.

To make real change, you need a human and not an algorithm.  But finding the right fit with a human therapist is crucial. We offer a brief initial telephone or FaceTime/zoom consultation to discuss how we might work together to help you find out if we might be a good match for you.
