How we work
Navigating Change
With Sensitivity
How we work depends on what you need and we will draw on our wide range of skills and experience to adapt to your unique circumstances. You may need help as an individual, as a couple or as a family and we will tailor our approach to suit you.
We understand how frightening and difficult it is to change and develop. Trust, respect, intelligent understanding and sensitivity are the foundations of our approach.
Giving you the help you need, confidentiality and the principle of ‘doing no harm’ are our priorities. We offer you a safe setting to share your experiences and to experiment with new ways of addressing life’s difficulties. We provide compassionate and effective care to give you the courage and skill to break away from restraints that hold you back and launch yourself into healing change.
Working together, we bring both male and female perspectives. We draw on extensive professional experiences and training. Our approach is characterised by straightforwardness and clarity, lightened by kindness, humour, a sense of fun and a powerful awareness of the need to make the most of life’s opportunities.
What we offer
How Can We Help You?

Step 3
Therapy Options
Individual and Couple Sessions
Individual and couple sessions are an opportunity for exploratory discussion, cognitive behavioural work, counselling and other specific interventions. Exploratory discussion helps clarify the issues causing difficulties and obstructing progress, leading to options for change. Cognitive behavioural work involves learning practical skills and strategies to rebuild confidence, challenge negative self-perceptions and discover a more positive and empowered sense of self. Counselling offers a supportive space to explore your concerns, gain insight and develop the coping skills needed to navigate challenging life circumstances with resilience and self-awareness. We will also use other forms of intervention to help you when indicated. Individual and couple sessions typically last 1 hour
Group Sessions
Group work provides a supportive and empowering environment to explore what is blocking your progress and limiting or preventing change, to build connections with others with shared experiences and to develop the confidence and resilience needed to navigate challenging life transitions. Peer support, shared experiences and collective wisdom are powerful resources for rebuilding confidence and finding a renewed sense of purpose and fulfilment. Group sessions typically last 4 hours with a break
Retreats
We will also be offering the opportunity to join us for the intense experience of a retreat lasting a week or a long weekend. Therapeutic retreats are a holistic approach to healing and personal growth, addressing the mind, body and spirit in a supportive and immersive environment and include individual and group sessions and experiences.
Change can be hard, frightening and lonely. Sometimes you need wise, kind and skilled helping hands.
It may only take a small shift in mindset to alter the way we perceive the world, but we can get stuck in repeated patterns of unhelpful behaviour, like denial, blaming others, adopting victimhood or attacking ourselves with self criticism, blocking us from change. We may long for something, such as a meaningful relationship or a sense of purpose, or maybe just yearn for something more but without knowing quite what that might be. Sometimes we may try to cope by falling into behaviour that becomes compulsive or addictive - alcohol, substance misuse, shopping, sex - chasing a temporary relief but then plunging back into despondency when the effect wears off, leaving us with our continued sense of dissatisfaction.
Although we have to live with ourselves, we can feel strangely disconnected. Unconscious blocks can prevent us from moving forward. We may not have properly understood our thoughts and actions. We might sabotage our own efforts or give up through self doubt. Often, we don’t have the time or energy to reflect thoughtfully about our problems because of the usual demands of life and the crises we have to face. We may spend our precious free time dipping in and out of distractions, postponing that much-needed meeting with our ignored, neglected self.
Reading this, you may feel as if you are ready for but fearful of change. You may have resisted the change you know you need to make because of fear - fear of confrontation, fear of failure, fear of the unknown. You may even fear success, because what would that new you be like? Would it even be you? A good start will be to label that fear as excitement. The bodily feelings of both are the same but they differ in the thoughts and moods that go with them. Thinking of what you are feeling as excitement at the chance of a better life will help you and we will teach you how to do that.
Now is the time to focus on and invest in yourself by taking those first steps to meaningful change that will transform your way of thinking and let you become at ease in your authentic self. With our skill, experience and commitment, we will guide you towards a deep self awareness, enable you to uncover what it is you fear and the core wounding that may have dogged you for a lifetime. Challenging your fears with our support will reduce the power they have over you and help you to change. Take the first step and contact us. We will listen, support, guide and (where appropriate) coach you, to find real solutions to your problems that you can act on and become your true self.

Step 1
Discovery Call
Your first step towards change is to request a ‘discovery’ call. We will contact you online to introduce ourselves and explain how we work. The discovery call leads on to assessment.

Step 2
Assessment
Assessment requires more than one meeting to allow us to reflect on what you have told us and plan how best to help you.
This is where we get to understand your personal and family background and your current circumstances. We want to understand your situation in life and what you have experienced. Assessment is best done in person but can be done online. The first meeting will probably take about two hours.
Following the background assessment, we will reflect on what we have learnt. We will then meet you a second time to check that we have understood, to explore any uncertainties and to share our thoughts about how things could change for you. We will explain what might help you to make those changes and agree a plan for next steps.
We may need a third meeting to further share with you our understanding of your issues and discuss with you what we think would be the most helpful way forward. At the end of this meeting we will make a plan for next steps.
